Henderson Municipal Power & Light (HMP&L)is seeking a Substation Technician. Minimum requirements include: residency in Kentucky within a defined distance from HMP&L; high school diploma or GED supplemented by vocation/technical training in substation operation and maintenance; minimum 5 years previous industrial experience and training involving electric system troubleshooting, maintenance and repair, including high voltage systems, as well as mechanical training in hydraulic and mechanical operating systems; familiarity with computers; strong communication and troubleshooting skills; understanding of electrical theory; must be able to read and interpret schematics and instruction manuals; ability to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance; must pass a drug/alcohol screen, physical exam, and background check upon conditional offer of employment; possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no DUI convictions in the previous 5 years. Preferred requirements include: associate degree in electrical engineering technology or related field; electrical apprenticeship or a journeyman electrician certificate; experience in high voltage utility transmission and distribution substations (13.8, 69, & 161 kV) maintenance and troubleshooting functions; and experience with SCADA systems and medium voltage switchgear. Starting annual wage is contingent upon experience, and includes paid vacation, sick leave, health benefits, and other benefits. Applications are available on-line at www.hmpl.com.
